The Super Popular [Field Trip Plus]—This Time, We're Trying Our Hand at Making Japanese Sweets and Conducting an English Interview!

"I want to help my child broaden their interests and expand their view of the world."

For those of you who feel that way, on Sunday, October 11,The popular "Field Trip Plus" event will be heldThe following is a summary of the results of the project!

The setting for this story is,A City Where History and Culture Come Alive"Kawagoe"It is!

There, the children will try their hand at making traditional Japanese sweets, interview foreign visitors in English, and finally present what they have learned.

"Create," "speak," "listen," "think," and "communicate."

Through a variety of experiences,We inspire children to say, “I want to try that!”

First, let's "create" and learn about Japanese culture!

This time, we'll be trying out,A traditional Japanese sweet"Nerikiri"It is.

"Located in Kawagoe, "Ayano-ka"at [Name],"We'll actually make flower-shaped and rabbit-shaped nerikiriOh my god!!!

Instead of just looking at them in photos or textbooks, try making Japanese sweets with your own hands.

"Why is it shaped like this?"
"What ingredients do you use?"
"When did people in the old days eat this?"

That question sparked my growing interest in Japanese food culture. Of course, one of the joys is taking the time to savor the wagashi I’ve made myself ✨

Interviewing Foreigners in Kawagoe!

The biggest challenge of this field trip was,Interviews with ForeignersIt is.

While strolling through the streets of Kawagoe, I’ll approach foreign visitors who are actually in Kawagoe and ask them questions in English.

"Where are you from?"
"Why did you come to Kawagoe?"
"What do you like about Japan?"

At first, some children might feel nervous about talking to strangers from other countries...

But,Work up the courage to say, “Hello!” Ask a question. Listen to the other person’s answer.And then you experience that moment when you realize, “They got it!”

This small sense of accomplishment,A major confidence booster for the childrenThis leads to

English isn't just "something you use to get the right answers on tests." It's a language for expressing your feelings and what you want to know, and for connecting with others.

It's something you can only experience by actually using English in a real city."English is fun!"We'll let you experience it ☺️

It's not just about English. We also help students develop their "communication skills."

What we value most this time isn’t just accuracy in English.

When asking a foreigner a question,

✔︎ Look the other person in the eye when speaking
✔︎ Use gestures
✔︎ Communicate with facial expressions
✔︎ Listen carefully to what the other person has to say
✔︎ Ask again if you don't understand

This requires various forms of communication, among other things.

It’s not that “I can’t speak English because my English isn’t perfect,” but rather,"How can I get my point across to the other person?""Let's think about it and give it a try." We aim to foster that kind of attitude.

And finally, present using “your own words”!

At the end of the field trip,What the children experienced that day, what they heard during their interviews with foreigners, and what they felt and learned from those experiencesOrganize and PresentI will do so.
