Summer Camp in Japan
Hello, my name is Kaburaki.
Seven days and six nights from July 20 to 26. Multinational friends gathered in Hakone.Held "Summer CampFrom England, Nepal, Philippines, Japan. From England, Nepal, Philippines, and Japan.A total of 26 elementary, junior high and high school students participatedThey did.
Experience Japanese culture such as calligraphy, Japanese drums, and zazen. Baths and futon bedding were also new experiences.

For Japanese children, they can have a global experience while in Japan,Hot but fulfilling 7 days with a tearful farewell on the last dayIt was.
As someone who was there to watch the students interact and grow with each other, I was truly happy to have been a part of the camp.
I have been to camps abroad before, but only with Japanese people,This is the first time that GLI has had the opportunity to study together with students from overseas in Japan, eating, sleeping, and bathing together from the same pot!It was.
Six to seven people formed into groups for activities, reflections, and to cook dinner.

At first, the students were hardened only with the same nationality,As activities are conducted, conversations and trust gradually grow beyond nationalities. Here's how it goes from here.DigestThe following is a list of the items that can be used to determine the amount of money to be spent.

Day 1
The group will go from Hakone-Yumoto Station to the Hakone Open-Air Museum, pass through Owakudani, and return to Togendai.Excursionswere all sweating as they traveled by mountain railroad and ropeway.

2nd day
Day 2Calligraphy."is that everyone writes one letter at a time to create a message.

A heart that recognizes differences, helps each other, and shares together will lead to peace in the world. The message is that if we learn together, play together, eat together, and sleep together, all children will get along.written up.

Wadaiko. In the "Kickoff" event, four teams wrote different songs, practiced them, and finally performed them in front of everyone.

The Omotogumi members had prepared happi coats for us, which looked quite nice.

When they finished practicing and performing in a short time, everyone's faces were very full.

3rd day
Mt.Narusawa Ice Cavewas a very strange feeling as the temperature dropped all at once from a certain spot on the staircase, and some groups went down to the bottom twice.

Day 4
Everyone.Hakone ShrineWe taught foreign students how to visit shrines by praying at the

Afternoon.SportsDay."was probably the most exciting with dodgeball and tug-of-war between teams.

5th day
Hakone Marquetry Makingwere each designed in a unique way.

Some of the museum's exhibits were from the Meiji era, and the workmanship and history of the museum was breathtaking.
Zazen is a good way to show one's personality, but everyone was able to sit firmly.

As is customary, each person was given an award, and each group made a seven-day presentation, ending withA fond and tearful farewellIt was.

Finally.
Nowadays, the educational field tends to seek some meaning or benefit.
Summer schools and camps also tend to demand the same kind of results as studies, such as the world's most advanced education, entrepreneurship education, or learning within a prestigious university, instead of studying.
Personally, I don't care about that,
Or cooking together and being happy with the results.
...or a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie from playing taiko drums...
...or tearful goodbyes to friends you've grown close to.
It's that simple.Children grow up enoughI will do so.

Nope,Rather, the simple things are more purely childlike and unadorned growth.I think it is a great idea. I think it is the best global education if there are friends of other nationalities there.

The camp does a lot of work on its own, so we do a lot of work, and the staff praises us as much as we do, which is probably about a year's worth of praise.
They are praised for cutting potatoes, for washing dishes and cleaning up, for expressing their opinions, and finally for the awards, which are applauded, shouted, and whistled wildly in front of everyone.
How about this, can you see the proud expressions on the children's faces after spending 7 days there?

This time, the "British team" consisted of one girl in her second year of high school and the others were five girls in their second year of middle school.
The "Nepal Team" consisted of one high school freshman boy, one junior high boy, and two girls.
The "Philippine Team" consisted of one first-year high school boy, one eighth-grade boy, and one third-grade boy.
All were elementary school students except for one boy in the third year of junior high school and three girls in the first year of junior high school from "Japan."
In Japan, participation by junior and senior high school students tends to decrease due to entrance exams and club activities. However, in other countries, junior high and high school students, like elementary school students, leave their parents' homes and go camping during the summer.
I expect many middle and high school students to participate next year. I will invite more countries to participate. Enjoy the event!
