GLI students on a recent Sunday, July 14, 2012.Speech Contest."The company conducted a
Theme.Food.It was.
Within "food," each student came up with a topic of his or her choice and each worked with a GLI instructor to research it and present it in English in front of the students and their parents.
Seven students submitted nominations that day, and the topics included "Japanese sweets," "food chain," and "differences between American and Japanese food," all of which were unique, creative, and wonderful speeches!
We would like to introduce here a few speech videos of a few of them. We would be happy if you could see their bravery ^ ^.
Theme: About Japanese cuisine (Y: 8 years old)
Story.
Mr. Y came to study at GLI two years ago.
At first, I could write the alphabet but could not write English words consisting of three or four words such as "big" and "cat.
Although there was a 6-month break in the middle of the program, they have worked hard for about 2 years at GLI and can now write difficult words such as "children" and "between" and can say and write what they want to say, such as "I have a black pen.
She is now able to converse with her teachers in a simple but natural way, and we are amazed at how much she has grown.

Topic: Effects of food on the body (Mr. F: age 11)
Story.
F was 10 years old at the time and has been studying at GLI for 4.5 years.
When I first started studying at GLI, I could not even write the alphabet, something I cannot imagine now.
Now I can express myself in English as in this presentation, and I can write and say my own opinion on some topic.
She is also able to read complex English sentences and write words correctly. We are simply amazed at the speed at which she is developing!

Topic: Difference between American and Japanese food (Ms. K:13 years old)
Story.
K was 13 years old at the time and began studying at GLI two years ago.
After studying English at GLI for one year, I went to study abroad in the U.S. to further improve my English.
GLI always encourages students to take on challenges, and with the advice of GLI instructors, she decided to leave Japan and improve her English.
When I first started studying at GLI, I could only write and speak simple words and sentences, but after studying in the U.S., I am now able to simply and smoothly express my opinions in English.
I would like GLI students to challenge themselves as she did, and we would like to convey the joy of English to our students so that they will want to go abroad and learn English!

There are still more students I would like to introduce, but they were all really great speeches!
Some parents wonder, "Can my child do a speech or presentation in English?" Some parents are actually surprised when they see their children's speeches.
We will do our best to expand the possibilities for such children!
