What is the "education" that will be required in the future?

People and society are in the midst of a great transformation.

In recent years, which have been called "the second Meiji Restoration," Japanese society is undergoing a variety of changes that are being demanded from time to time. And along with the changes in society, the abilities required of people have also changed.

Declining population and the accompanying decrease in the working population. Foreign nationals can now be seen working here and there in convenience stores, izakaya (Japanese style pubs), family restaurants, etc. In the near future, it will become a common sight to see them working as full-time employees in Japanese companies.

AI and robots, which do not seem familiar to us at present, will eventually change our lives significantly.

I recently read a magazine featuring "AI caregivers." They have already developed a wheelchair that can drive itself automatically with GPS functionality and can go to the bathroom, eat, and be controlled as it wishes via an app. Eventually, they will be able to talk to each other and replace the role of caregivers.

Elderly people in nursing homes are said to be reluctant to ask for help because they do not want to bother the busy staff, but the article introduced a near future in which such problems will be solved beautifully.

The tragedy of families who cannot abandon "score-based education.

If foreigners become our rivals for employment in the future, and "things that only humans can do" will be demanded as abilities, then the current Japanese education system, which only requires students to score points, will not be able to survive.

The theme of the major educational reforms that have already begun is the "development of human resources who can think and act independently in response to social problems and issues.

In reality, however, some families still practice conventional education without question.

There was a family like this at the school my son attended. The family had moved from Tokyo. The mother and two daughters lived near the school, and the father came only on weekends.

Although the family was very dedicated to education, their two daughters were forced to study every minute from the time they were in first grade, and were not allowed to participate in any other sports or community activities.

I went back and forth between home and school, and only studied at home. I continued this lifestyle until I was in the third grade of junior high school.

One might think that he would have gone on to an excellent career. However, the reality was quite the opposite. I rebelled against my parents when I hit puberty and did not achieve the education and future that they had envisioned for me.

Like this,The act of managing children by parental ego is no longer education, but "mad parenting.I think that it is a good idea.

In an age of spiritual richness

Now, the key to the major educational reform is "to think and act independently on social issues," which actually requires a truly difficult educational design.

To face social issues in the first place, we need to have contact with society. Furthermore, in order to "want to spend one's life trying to solve them," one must have the mental richness to do so.

Parents often scold their children, "Be kind to others! However, these things are not something that can be learned by saying them; it is the daily environment and habits that are important.

For example, if a child sees a stranger falling down, and sees his or her parents go to the rescue first (while many people just walk by), the child may learn to "help a friend who has fallen down".

The same goes for "study."

Just telling a child to "read a book" does not make it easy for the child to read. Whether it is a newspaper or anything else, children will read when they see their parents reading.

Don't just play games, go outside and play!" Instead, play together. In this age of declining birthrates, parents need to learn together with their children.

We need to change from "strong upbringing" that forces children to follow only one set of instructions and orders, and "corrective upbringing" that pays attention only to the bad parts and ruins the good parts, to "cooperative upbringing" where the couple works together, "co-education" where they learn together with their children, and "mirror education" where parents themselves set a good example.

The purpose of all of this is to nurture the richness of mind and initiative to shape one's own life for the sake of world peace and the happiness of others.

How can I motivate my child to learn and grow?" Parents need to keep asking themselves that question, don't they?
