Event Report] Field Trip To The Imperial Palace

GLI's bi-monthly field trips are popular events that are well known to everyone.

The first field trip of the school year was to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace on Sunday, April 21.

A total of 19 people, including students and outsiders, participated in this year's event!

(Sorry to those who were unable to attend as we reached capacity quickly 💦)

This field trip is very familiar to all of you, but I would like to briefly introduce the details of the event.

Meet at Hiroo School!

On the morning of the day, we first gathered at the Hiroo School.

GLI events usually bring together students from different schools (Harumi, Hiroo, Musashi-Kosugi, Online, and outside) to learn English.

This time, we formed one group of only junior and senior high school students to prepare and practice more advanced questions and guidance in English.

The other four groups are grades 1-6 and first graders.

Some of the children were happy to be reunited with friends they had been with at previous events!

(Seeing friends from different classrooms is one of the fun parts of GLI events!)

All groups prepare for the interview by working together, especially the older students, to think of questions, look up English words, and teach each other how to spell the words.

Start of interview!

At our destination, by the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, we ate lunch in good company and finally began the interviews by group!

(I could have entered the East Gardens, but the line to check luggage at the entrance was long and it was hot that day, so I decided to do the interview around the exit of the Gardens.)

We had done a field trip to the Imperial Palace area once before, but even more so than that.

The number of foreign tourists seems to be increasing!

It is not difficult to find interviewees, but it still takes courage to say the first word.

However, after the group's leader, an older child, did his best to say the first "Excuse me!

Everyone was having more and more fun, too, talking to one another one after another (not that they were competing for numbers by any means),

Presentation at the end

The interview is not the end of the process.

After the interview in the Imperial Palace area, we returned to the Hiroo Classroom for a summary and presentation!

This time, parents will be invited to watch the presentation.

Here again, the older brothers and sisters of the group were very active.

We will rely on our notes and videos to recall what we heard in the interview and summarize the content in English.

The younger students worked hard to finish their speeches, following the example of their older brothers and sisters ✨.

Some of them were new to both interviews and presentations, but in a limited amount of time,

After much preparation and practice, everyone was able to stand in front of a large audience and give a splendid presentation!

Here are some of the comments we received from parents of children who participated in the event.

I thought that, unlike at school, being partnered with a team with an age difference was a good way to learn not only English but also social studies.

It was great that they gave us an opportunity to present our work in front of everyone, and that our parents were able to observe it.

I was very thankful that the class was divided into small groups and one teacher was assigned to each group. I was able to speak English in my own way with the help of the teachers.
