Hello!

This is Aya from GLI Online.

Weekend study abroad experience at YBS (Yokosuka Bilingual School) & exploration activities at Sarushima on November 3 and 4.

On October 9 (national holiday), one month before the event, the participating elementary school students and the junior high school students who will participate as interns met for the first time!

The first part is a strategy meeting for junior high school student interns

Before the elementary school participants gather, we first meet with the junior high school interns.

As expected of junior high school students, after introducing themselves in English, Mr. Brandon joined them and asked them questions.

Lively communication took place.

And finally, the main topic is about activities as an intern.

In addition to following up with GLI students who take classes at YBS, the YBS side of the company also acts as a support for the teachers.

It is expected to

Foreign children studying at YBS take classes in English, but they also have classes where they practice Japanese and are very interested in Japanese culture.

As interns, we discussed ideas on how we should behave in class, how we could support everyone, and what we could do to make them feel welcome.

Also, on the second day, we took a day trip to Sarushima. New ideas for activities to be done there are constantly emerging!

One meeting was not enough time, and one of the interns suggested, "Let's have a second meeting! The interns even suggested, "Let's have a second meeting!

An uninhabited island 10 minutes by ferry from Yokosuka!

The second part with all participants!

In the afternoon, team building with elementary school participants.

For this event, which involves an overnight stay, teamwork is the most important thing.

Participants are divided into teams that will work together during the event,

To strengthen bonds with friends who have met for the first time, we challenged them to the "Paper Cup Challenge!

What is the "Paper Cup Challenge?"

The idea is to stack paper cups by holding a stick of string attached to a rubber band and stacking them without using your hands.......

We all need to breathe together, talk to each other, and work together with the same degree of force.

If only one person does it too fast or with too much force, the paper cup will tip over.

Everyone is serious!

The children, who had just met for the first time and were a bit nervous, were able to get to know each other at once through this challenge.

I was able to do it.

Event Goals

As in the first part, elementary school participants will review the day's schedule and activities, and then

All the interns and elementary school students came up with their own goals.

Goals at YBS, goals in activities on uninhabited islands, goals in overnight events....

Organize yourself and your surroundings!

I want to teach Kendama to my foreign friends!

I want to make 10 friends!

I want to talk to them myself!

I want to learn 10 new English phrases!

From small goals to big challenges, "I want to be like this" kept coming up.

Through the event, I will watch over them so that they can grow toward the goal they set for themselves!
