2023 [Hawaii Study Tour] Parent Survey

Hello, this is Hikari from GLI!

The recently heldHawaii Study Tours.related toIntroducing the "Parent Survey."I would like to do so! (*Number of responses: 10 as of 4/20)

Q1: What did you expect from the tour?

To understand Hawaiian culture and environmental issues

He wanted to see many living things. From a parent's perspective, I wanted my son to broaden his horizons.

I want them to be able to think and act on their own.

I expected a trip that would allow me to do things that I would not be able to experience on a normal trip.

Experience the different cultures of foreign countries.

I participated in this program in the hope that it would be a good experience for me.

I look forward to seeing them become as independent as possible, so that they can relate to various people, learn from their knowledge and actions, and express their own opinions.

Improve your English skills, become independent, and experience things you can't in Japan.

The participants were expected to experience different cultures and learn about environmental issues in their first overseas trip.

I feel like I'm going abroad alone. Going to a space where I can hear English.

Q2: How would you rate the overall tour?

(5) Very good: 8 persons
Good: 2 persons

Q3: Please write any comments or suggestions you have regarding the tour as a whole.

I was able to learn about local environmental issues from multiple perspectives.

I enjoyed the pizza and fries, although some of the food did not suit me and there were not enough vegetables, which gave me heartburn. I was full all day, and even though it was a little hard, it was a good memory.

I am really glad I joined the tour. From the preliminary study, to the procedures, to the follow-up during the tour, you were really sincere in your support. During the tour, they frequently shared photos with the parents, and we were able to wait for our daughter's return home with great peace of mind. My daughter also learned a lot by participating in the study tour and being exposed to different cultures and local issues with friends of different ages. My daughter wishes that we could have this kind of study tour every year. Thank you so much to the staff and teachers.

It was good to be able to get to know everyone in a friendly atmosphere. It was also good to see not only what we usually see in Hawaii but also what we don't see. I would have liked to see the hula performance if possible.

There was a lot of travel, but it was good to experience many firsts.

I am very happy to have been able to participate.

She was not afraid to use English and told her parents how confident she was and how grateful she was for the opportunity to participate in the tour. They were not afraid to use English and expressed to their parents how much their confidence had improved and how grateful they were to have been allowed to participate in the tour. (Parent)

I think that if the tour had been a tour where the students stayed with their parents at night and worked alone during the day, they would have been more mentally stable and focused..........he said........

Through the tour, I wanted to learn more about environmental issues, and I gained confidence in my ability to communicate overseas.

I enjoyed listening to the stories of university students who have actually studied abroad and are living in Hawaii and the many activities, and I made friends that I would not have been able to meet without participating.

Q4: How was the program?

(5) Very good: 9 persons
Good: 1

Q5: Please select an activity that you particularly enjoyed.

Plastic waste pickup activity Beach cleaning: 4 persons
Dolphin College: 4
Presentation: 1 person
Art workshop using waste materials: 1 person

Q6: What was/wasn't good about it?

It was good to hear from an NGO working on microplastics.

I saw dolphins, fish and whales.

The most important thing is that there were a variety of learning opportunities.

I was able to learn more about my interests.

Good point...We were able to experience a lot of activities that were part of the program within the limited time of 4 nights and 6 days. Bad points...We had to move around a lot, and there was not enough time to prepare for the presentation after we arrived at our accommodations.

Learning about the marine ecosystem

It was fun because the ocean was beautiful and we saw many different animals.

I was able to select only one of the above questions and answers, but the experience of going offshore on a boat and seeing the creatures in the sea is not easy, so even though I was seasick, it seemed to be a good memory for me. This is my personal impression of the students, but I thought it was wonderful and necessary for them to cooperate with each other and carry out the tour to the end, but I wondered about the older children taking care of/chaperoning the younger elementary school students from the perspective of parents who sent them there mainly to learn English and have hands-on experience. I felt that it was not a good idea. There is a difference between cooperating and helping each other and looking after and babysitting. Especially in the lower grades, the ability/comfortableness of the children can change considerably with just one difference in grade. I felt that if we did not take the age difference into consideration when organizing the tour, the older children would be burdened.

It was good to be able to pick up trash and see with my own eyes how much trash is actually out there, and to feel closer to the problem.

It was simply fun because it had been a long time since I personally had been in the ocean.

Q7: How did the GLI staff respond to you from the preparation of your trip to the end of the tour?

(5) Very good: 10 persons

Q8: What did you like/dislike about it?

I was able to communicate frequently with them on line and it was very helpful.

The tour guide was very helpful and gave us clear examples of how to fill out all the necessary forms before we left. My son was also very helpful during the tour, sending us pictures. Thank you very much.

The staff was very sincere in responding to our concerns and questions.

It was fun.

I was able to ask questions about both my life and studies, and they kindly answered my questions and were reassuring. (What was not good about the program) Nothing! Thank you very much.

Always make sure that students are safe.

It was good that he was aware of each person's situation and called on them (him).

The staff responded promptly to our questions and concerns. The travel agent was difficult to understand, slow to respond, made many excuses for mistakes, and seemed unprofessional.

It was great fun to have your support in various places, and of course, you made the tour so much fun.

He was very attentive to the students, took lots of pictures, and came to talk with us frequently.

Q9: How did you find the local university student staff?

(5) Very good: 9 persons
Good: 1

Q10: What did you like/dislike about it?

The staff was very kind and helpful.

He was kind and taught me many things.

He said that he was very kind.

. gentle.

He was very supportive throughout the activities and we had a lot of fun together because we had a lot to talk about. (I had a great time with them.

The way they treated me... The friendly manner in which they treated me.

He was very easy to talk to because he was kind.

The staff was kind and supportive. The percentage of English was high and appropriate. He did not have any bad points.

It was good to learn about the advantages and disadvantages of living in the area and to share various knowledge at the museum and Sea Life Park.

They helped me when I didn't know how to get on the elevator and talked to me casually.

Q11: How was life at the University of Hawaii dormitory?

(5) Very good: 4 persons
Good: 3 persons
(3) Can't say: 2
(2) "Somewhat poor": 1 person

Q12: What did you like/dislike about the program?

We were able to get a glimpse of life in the dormitories.

It was a private room and more spacious than I expected. It was fun to feel like I was in a foreign country.

I was able to feel like a college student in a foreign country.

...wide

The place was a private room among 4-person rooms. The toilet was clogged easily and the shower was difficult to use. The blinds did not close.

Where there were many insects.

I was very happy that we were connected inside, even though it was a single room (him).

The bad part was that the bed was hard to sleep on and the shower was hard to get out. The bad points were that the beds were hard, so they could not sleep, and the shower was difficult to start.

It was nice to be able to experience the life of Hawaii students up close and personal, and it was very safe. It would have been better if we had a room for two or more people instead of a private room.

The room was spacious and the desk was spacious enough, although the air purifier was broken from the first day.

Q13: Did your child (or yourself if middle school age or older) grow after participating in the program?

(5) I think it was very good: 7 persons
I think there were: 3

Q14: What do you think has changed/grown?

I think I've become more independent in all aspects of my life.

Before I left Japan, I was a bit nervous about my first trip abroad, but by the time I came back, I felt I had gained some courage.

He is now more willing to go abroad and participate in extracurricular activities.

I thought I'd do some research on what interests me.

I learned about the local lifestyle in Hawaii, and the presentation was judged and listened to by locals, which helped me become more positive about speaking English.

I feel more confident.

I feel that my English listening and speaking skills have improved and I have more confidence (he).

I used to be loose and rarely looked at the clock, but after Hawaii, I started to pay attention to the time. I used to be dependent on my parents, but now I am more independent. I used to be open to being dependent on my parents, but now I am asking myself, "How can I become independent? Will the day come when I can be independent? I worry..." I have changed my way of thinking a little.

My impression of foreign countries has changed dramatically for the better, and I have gained a lot of confidence in my ability to communicate in English abroad. I feel I was able to overcome my shyness. I feel that participating in the tour has opened up new avenues for my future.

I am a member of a team, and I have the spirit of speaking in English.

Q15: How much would you recommend these tours to others?

5) Definitely worth attending: 5
(4) Worth attending: 5

Q16: If you answered that it is (definitely) worth attending, what would you recommend and what comments would you make?

A place where there is a lot to learn that is different from traveling.

I was able to learn a lot and see a lot of living things at the museum. I could see the different language, culture, and social rules from Japan.

Overall, I felt the staff's enthusiasm and desire to make the trip a good one from the content of the project and the way they treated us.

Fun.

I think that the program is safe to participate in because of the variety of activities, the presentations, and the presence of teachers who will be leading the program.

I recommend this program because you can meet people who are working to solve environmental problems overseas and actually participate in their activities.

I think it's a good opportunity to improve my English and to make friends and bond with people I don't know. (herself)

It was a great opportunity for me to learn about environmental issues and to test my English skills.

I think you should do it even if you are afraid of it. And I think you should do it even if you are afraid of it because it is a lot more fun than you can imagine!
