GLI has started a system called "Best Class Recognition"!
Hello, I am Kaburaki, a representative of GLI.
At GLIBest Class Award. The Best Class awards ceremony for October was held recently.
Best Classmeans the followingItem 8.The students in the class with the highest score in a month are awarded a prize after the lesson.
The item is,
(1) We were able to help each other during the lessons.
(2) I could use the classroom tools and facilities with care.
(iii) I could listen to my teacher.
(4) I was able to work with a sense of responsibility.
(5) Treated teachers and friends with respect.
(6) I was able to complete the day's tasks.
(7) Class could be cleaned after use.
(viii) Did not use Japanese
The first two are the following.
(Here is the sheet on which the evaluation was based, and we have implemented it in all classes from AA to EE.)
So why does GLI do this?
And,'It's an English conversation school, why would they even do that?'You may have felt that theThe Answer."We will inform you of the following
It is,
GLI is an institute for training Global Lerner.
It is.
To be active in the world, it is not enough to simply speak English.According to Dr. Matsui (GLI's program planner),Don't be "just another person who speaks English."That is to say.
Both their behavior and what they say in English must be able to stand up to the global place.
In turn, how about Japanese elementary schools?
Classroom disruption is becoming more and more common. Teachers are devising various ways to help students who cannot sit still.
Divide the 40-minute class time into 10-15-15 minutes to keep the students focused, or include movement instead of just one-way talking. ・・・・
But this is...Is it up to global standards?" I am sorry to say that it is not the same in the countries of the world that I know.(Of course there are various levels, but...).
The reason for this is my friend who lives in the US the other day,'In the U.S., it's because you go to associations from a young age.'He said.
I agree! But everyone can sit properly in the Philippines, Indonesia, or Nepal~!
I also represent a junior high school hardball team, and the association to which I belong has an event called Japan-U.S. Friendship Baseball, and we take turns going back and forth for a year.
When a Japanese athlete goes to the United States to have a party. What kind of behavior do they take when they are told that it is OK to have fun today?
We have a garden party at a house with a pool in the yard, and we jump into the pool, throw our friends into the pool, etc. (Of course, the players on our team are trained not to do such things).
They don't understand that it is not about having fun, but about getting off on the wrong foot.
American players, on the other hand, know that having fun at a party means enjoying conversation.
I am really trying to figure out what the difference is.
So,At GLI, we teach students to acquire a strong attitude.I am doing this.
Other student response policies include,
(1) Treat them as adults.
(2) Get them to understand their rights and duties, their freedoms and obligations.
(iii) Listen to opinions and ideas
We share the policy that
Treating them as adults means allowing them to make choices and self-determination.
For example, let's say there are times during a lesson when you lose concentration or become drowsy.
Do not suddenly become angry,I cannot allow my friends to interfere with me or make noise because I am losing my concentration and cannot focus on the lesson, because it violates their right to learn. We make sure to tell them that they are in the right place.
But it's ok to go outside the classroom or go to the bathroom to freshen up, use your own judgment,I will tell them that.
As for listening to opinions and ideas, if we find out that you have had a fight and one of you hits the other, we will not force you to get angry or apologize without asking any questions.
There is always some reason for a child's behavior.
When I ask him what the reason for the beating was, he tells me that it was because the teacher had been repeatedly messing with him in a way he did not understand and had not quit when I asked him to stop.
neverthelessI don't even say, 'But violence is wrong, so let's apologize.
I see - you were taking the lesson seriously, but you got frustrated," he sympathized.Indicates the
thereafterHow did you feel when I hit you?" and encourage them to perceive reality for themselves.
'I felt bad,' 'I see - I beat you out of frustration, but you didn't feel good. That's right, you didn't want to hit him if you could have. In this way, rather than teaching justice one way or the other, if you let the child think for himself or herself and put it into words, he or she will understand it more honestly.
evenIf adults make them apologize unilaterally, they become more and more stubborn and put them in a situation where they can't apologize. It is a
The purpose of Best Class is the same.
By setting up an environment in which they can think for themselves, rather than telling them one-sidedly what to do and what not to do, or not telling them the ideal situation beforehand and then getting angry after they have done it, they will be able to control themselves proactively.
Ask rather than impose.
I am"First Steps to Initiative."is here to stay.
N and E were selected as the Best Class in October,I'm so proud of you!
Finally, we interviewed the Best Class winners. Please take a look.
