GLI 10th Anniversary Event Held
Hello, my name is Kaburaki.
May 25 at the Foreign Correspondents Club,GLI's "10th Anniversary Event" was held.We did.
On-site and online participation combinedApproximately 50 peopleThank you very much for your participation in the event. We would also like to thank those who sent flowers and congratulatory messages.
The story of GLI's beginnings.
"Something must be done about English education in Japan."GLI was started with this idea in mind.
As I mentioned in my speech at the ceremony, the initial slogan was "a new place for learning that is neither a tutoring school nor an English conversation school," something that did not resonate at all with customers.
I feel that I lacked a sense of style, and I also feel that I had not yet solidified what I wanted to offer.
The initial concept was to train global learners, as the school's name implies.
Symbolic of this is "Learning English, not learning English. Developing inquiry-based texts and acquiring language skills by learning other subjects in English.CLIL."This is a second language acquisition method called
And it doesn't involve any Japanese.Immersion."in combination withCLIL & Immersion."This style of learning about the world was based on an exploratory approach.
Personal,This is the best way for younger children to learn and make sense, and to improve not only their English language skills, but also their knowledge and their own thinking.I think that is a good idea.
Because English is a language, it is a means of communication. The important thing is to be able to express yourself using the language, and I thought that simply studying English itself and passing a certification test would not achieve either of these goals.
After that, the number of events increased, based on the idea that it is important to actually use the English one has learned.
We had Presentation Day, International Day, Donation Day, and our first overseas study tour!(Dr. Bhushan's hometown) NepalIt was.
When we took a survey asking what kind of places they would like us to send them, we came to this conclusion when we received the answer, "Places that families would not be able to go. I remember being surprised at the time that this was exactly the response of the parents of GLI.
Our overseas partner schools now range from Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, and Hawaii.
Since then, we have continued our exploration of what it takes to nurture global learners, and with the encounter with Mr. Takatsuki, we have created an ecosystem of lessons + activities + higher education.
It is a great asset for GLI that many prominent figures from overseas have come to Japan to give lectures, such as the recent chairman of a local rugby school in England.
Overseas study tours are also available with the help of a local manager I know,Local learning offered that you would not normally be able to visit or meet.I am now able to do it.
We will continue to explore ways to provide valuable learning experiences using English. We look forward to your continued support.
Education and examinations in Japan have changed dramatically over the past decade.
Until now, it has not been possible to use global skills such as English and inquiry to take exams or enter higher education,In junior high school entrance examinations, there is an increase in the number of entrance examination styles other than the four general subjects, such as English proficiency examinations and thinking ability examinations.
The importance of English proficiency has never been greater. In addition, more and more universities do not require applicants to take an English test, as a level 1 English proficiency test is converted into a perfect score of 100 points on the common test.
exactlyWith GLI's English proficiency + experience (motivation and activity history), you can take the Comprehensive, General, and Overseas Exams, greatly expanding the range of entrance examinations. It is a
In addition, I believe that Japanese people have a strong awareness that studying abroad should start at university.
The first overseas middle school from GLI was actually a middle school and high school in Georgia called Rabun Gap in the United States. A sixth-grade girl jumped into an American boarding school all by herself.
Some time later, after hearing about her experience, the well-known Hirari Inaba followed suit and paved the way for GLI's early study abroad program.
The opening of Harrow Abei School, Malvern College Tokyo, and Rugby Tokyo followed, and it can be said that overseas boarding schools have become increasingly popular.
In the past 3 years, about 40 children have entered boarding schools in Japan and abroad. The company has been working on a new project.
Some of the students were tired of taking entrance exams and changed their direction, but in fact, they have broadened their perspectives and worldviews and are enjoying their time abroad.
GLI is unique in that many students study abroad not only for study, but also for sports and the arts.
A Japanese junior champion in karting, a Japanese junior champion in cheerleading, a child prodigy in musicals, and a junior high school student who is attracting worldwide attention for her soccer skills. What's more, he's a genius.Parents who recognize and support their children's unique talentsIt is only if the
GLI is what it is today,Thanks to the courageous first steps taken by these students and their parents. It can be said.
Many of you have been coming to us since the beginning. We really appreciate it.
At first, many of the children came only for Eiken ®︎ or quit when it was time to take the junior high school entrance exam, but thankfully, most of them have come to GLI recently because they know us well. We also receive many referrals. Some of the children participate in every event.
GLI will continue to adhere to its philosophy of
Happy education and advancement for both parents and children
Expand your child's horizons to the world
We hope to provide such assistance at a high level.
Once again, thank you very much for your support.
We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts and hope to repay your kindness in the form of supporting your children's bright future even more.
We look forward to working with you in the future.
