Let's go to YBS for a Weekend Study Abroad!

Hello, this is Aya from GLI Online.

Last November, the GLI had aWeekend Study Abroadunder the title ofCollaboration event with Yokosuka Bilingual School (YBS)The company has conducted a

The second session of this program will be held on March 20, 2012 (Wednesday, national holiday). (This time it is a 1-day program).

What kind of school is Yokosuka Bilingual School?

Yokosuka Bilingual School (=YBS) is a bilingual school in the global city of Yokosuka, where children from various countries, languages, and backgrounds attend, from pre-primary to elementary school students.

You may have the image or expectation that a bilingual school = English language learning, but what "YBS" values more than that,To share our thoughts and feelings with each other with all our might and enjoy the differences, not just words!

Because you can appreciate and enjoy differences, you will have confidence in your originality. When you have confidence in yourself, you can expand your possibilities anywhere in the world!

We hope that everyone at GLI will enjoy the diversity of the environment, interact with each other a lot, and open up their own possibilities! That's what we hope for,Regular "Weekend Study Abroad"The event will be held.

By participating regularly, you will be able to improve your communication skills, improve your conversational English skills, and most importantly, deepen your relationship with other YBS students, making it feel like a "study abroad" experience. You will be able to have a "study abroad" experience.

this timeWeekend Study AbroadWhat you can do with

At the March Weekend Study Abroad event with YBS, students will try the following three programs

1) Take classes together in a YBS class

At YBS, classes are taught based on the concept of "Learning through English input x output x experience.

Therefore, you will not only learn English like in school, but you will also be able to use it properly in the environment and in many activities!

Because I take classes with my YBS classmates, I can absorb not only English but also a lot of other things.

2) Take GLI's inquiry-based learning with YBS students

Some of the activities at YBS include time for activities led by GLI instructors.

Each time a different "theme" will be presented with YBS classmates.

The theme of this year's event is Spring Sports Day!

Even if you don't have the courage to speak English at first, if you work together in a physical activity, you may be able to form a bond through heart and teamwork rather than language.

Even familiar competitions such as tripods and sack races can be stimulated in a different way by working with children from a variety of backgrounds.

3) Spend lunch and break time with YBS students

As before, we will spend free time with YBS students during lunch time and breaks.

In a new environment and with new friends, it may be difficult to express yourself, especially in English, and you may shy away from doing so.

Therefore, in order to get closer to our friends at YBS, we will prepare a "Show & Tell" in advance.

What you like to do, what you are good at, the town you live in, your dreams....

Through "presentations" that let people know about themselves, they will deepen their understanding and interest in each other, and their free time will become much more exciting!

Not Just English Proficiency! Junior and senior high school student interns are very active!

We are looking for junior and senior high school student interns to accompany us at each event in collaboration with YBS.

In addition to assisting GLI students, you will also serve as a middle and high school intern at YBS to experience the work of a bilingual school as well as taking care of preschool (pre-school) children.

Even though they are middle and high school students, they are "members of the staff".

The ability to look around, think and act responsibly is required.

I am sure that by participating not only once, but continuously, and through repeated efforts, you will be able to make the most of your time before and after participating in the event.

You will see great growth.

We can also accept interns from upper elementary school age and up. We look forward to welcoming elementary school students as well!

Voices of the First Participants

In the survey after the first YBS event, 100% of the participants said they would like to participate again next time! The percentage of those who responded "I would like to participate again next time" was 100%!

We asked them why they felt they wanted to participate again.

Through the one-day study abroad program, I was able to experience the atmosphere in the school and make friends! I was able to experience the atmosphere in the school and make friends!

I improved my communication skills and made friends with both Japanese and non-Japanese.

The child told me that, to be honest, the atmosphere was overwhelming, but that he strongly felt that he too would like to be able to speak someday. He would like to participate again next time.

I think he enjoyed it very much because he was able to learn English instead of just learning English, and because he was able to make friends with children he had never met before. He was a little nervous, so I think he will enjoy it more the next time he participates.

I came home inspired and with a strong desire to be able to speak someday myself.

The study abroad experience, which I could easily participate in over a weekend, was valuable and provided me with a good opportunity to use the English I was learning on a regular basis in a real-life situation.
