The "Easy Way" for Elementary School Children to Become "English Lovers

●海外に興味を持ってもらいたい。

●留学もしてほしい。

 

と感じていると思います。そんな気持ちをお持ちなら、まず最初に子どもにすべきことが、”英語を好きになってもらうこと”It is.

ですがリアルな話、私の周りでも英語教育に熱心な親御さんがいるのですが、その情熱が強すぎて結果、’’子どもが英語嫌いになった”ケースは少なくはないのです。

もしそうであればいいのですが、「留学や海外」などをキーワードに教育されている方にとって、「子どもが英語嫌いになる。。」という最悪なケースは絶対に避けたいと思います。

 

そこで今日は、私たちGLIでも意識している『小学生のお子様が”英語好き”になる簡単な方法』というテーマでお話ししたいと思います。

 

人気の英語教材では不正解。

まずは結論から。小学生の子どもを英語好きにする簡単な方法とは、「人気の英語教材を与える」でもなく「一緒に英語を学ぶ」でもありません。

 

至極シンプルなことなんですが、それは『”感情が動く経験”を子どもにさせること』It is.

なぜ、感情が動く経験が重要なのか？

この話を聞いて「なぜ、それが重要なのか？」と思う方もいるかもしれません。

 

その理由は結構シンプルで「楽しい！嬉しい！」などの『感情アプローチ』の方が子どもにとって好まれるFrom.

 

私たち大人は時に、「英語は将来使うからやりなさい！」などの『論理的アプローチ』で子どもに接してしまいます。

 

でもそれが子どもにとって、しんどいもので、苦痛であればどうでしょうか？絶対に英語が嫌いになります。

 

子が英語嫌いになった親御さんのケースも、親のコンプレックスからか、英語をやりなさい！とガミガミ言ったり、子どもが苦手だったライティングを無理やりさせていたそうです。

 

ですので「英語が役立つから」など論理的なアプローチで子どもに接するのではなく、まずは何も言わず「楽しい」など、ドキドキ、ワクワク、ポジティブな感情が動く経験をさせることが英語好きになってもらうために大切なのです。

 

「英語に触れ合うと、なんだか楽しい面白い」そういう思い出や経験がベースにあると「もっとやってみたい！」「海外のことも知りたい！」など、探究心を刺激できるSo.

 

親御様へのメリット

などあるはずです。とはいえ「そういう環境を見つけるのが難しい。。」という問題点もあります。

 

だからこそ私たちGLIは、お子様がワクワクする楽しい経験ができるイベントを開催しているわけです。

 

来年1月4⽇(火)~6⽇(木)の３日間で、”冬の海外行事を疑似体験できる”ウィンタースクールを開催したのもそのため。

 

いかにお子様がワクワク、楽しいを通じて、英語を好きになってもらえたらと思い、内容も考えられています。
