Summer School" dedicated to [SDGs and STEAM]!

Hello, this is Kaburaki, GLI representative.

At GLISTEAM Summer School" focusing on "SDGs," "STEAM," "Programming," and "Robotics."will also be held.

In this issue. What is the future of solar panels?theme,Focusing on SDG #7, "Affordable and Clean Energy for All. Focusing on SDG #7 "Affordable and Clean EnergyWe will deliver the

By exploring the SDGs and building a "solar panel-equipped kid" while providing hands-on experience with how solar panels work,What can we do for our environment?" Thinking about what we can do for our environment,This program is designed to help students acquire not only English language skills, but also "thinking skills, presentation skills, problem finding and solving skills, and programming skills.

Why are the "SDGs" important in our lives?

Have you ever thought about this?

All of the SDGs are closely related to our lives, but this time the theme"Focus on number 7."While,Why is it important?"I would like to talk about

First,SDG #7 "Energy for All. And clean."Can you imagine what is meant when you hear

put it this way in a shattering way"Let's bring clean, non-harmful energy to everyone."I would say that this is the case,Why are such goals and why are they important in our lives?

To give you some background on this,After the Industrial Revolution, humankind's energy consumption increased enormously.I did.

Now, though, things are improving a little bit,Thermal power generation, which relies on "fossil fuels" for the majority of its energy sources, including Japan, has been emitting large amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

This is a slightly older document, but according to data provided by the International Energy Agency (IEA),Carbon dioxide in the world continues to rise steadily and has only recently leveled off.

One of the problems facing the world today is the increase in such carbon dioxide emissions and the concentration of greenhouse gases in the air, which has led to climate change and a world where extreme weather events occur frequently.

For example, don't you think there have been many typhoons, floods, and other extreme weather events recently? It is said that this is also due to the effects of this increase in greenhouse gas concentrations.

Due to extreme weather conditions caused by greenhouse gases,The damage to human lives, housing, crops, and the economy has been enormous on a "global" scale.

That's why the environmental issues mentioned above, includingLet's create a goal to help everyone solve global problems faster!"This is why it was born. The SDGs."It is.

And,In order to "maintain a livable world for all of us," we need to make sure that thisIt is important to be aware of the "SDGs" and act accordinglyIt is.

Therefore,Acting with an awareness of SGDs is in itself a commitment to global issues.

And,As GLI aims to nurture global human resources, the SDGs are a theme that we would like children to become familiar with, which is why we hold SDG-themed events. It is.

If your child hasI want my child to be able to play an active role overseas in the future!"If you wish,Not only English, but also a global perspective through an interest in the SDGs.It can also be like.

We hope that you will take advantage of this STEAM Summer School and make it an opportunity to have a global perspective.

What does the STEAM Summer School entail?

This year's STEAM Summer School isFour Days. Activity-centered contentIt is.

[DAY 1: Exploratory study on SDG No. 7].

Why were the SDGs created? What are the intentions and goals of each of the 17 SDGs? Day 1 is to deepen basic understanding of the SDGs.

And especially SDG #7, "Energy for All. And for clean",Using mind maps and videos, we will explore more and deepen our understanding of the "impact on the earth," the purpose, and the background behind the creation of the number 7.

Through this program, students will not only explore the SGDs, but also improve their knowledge and vocabulary as they learn "30 words" related to the SDGs every day (120 words in total).

[DAY 2: Think and implement solutions to the SDGs!

Day 2 will build on what we learned on Day 1 about SDG #7, "Energy for All. And clean" based on what we learned on the first day.Have the group discuss "solutions."

Other keys to the solution.Current status and approaches to "clean energy" in Japan and overseasto learn and understand the differences between Japan and other countries.

And in the second half of the second day,The students will "experiment" with solar panels and wind turbines to generate real energy.

Through this experiment, how is clean energy produced? s mechanism.

DAY 3) Let's think about the future of solar panels by making full use of scratch!

On the third day.Activities using "Scratch ProgrammingThe following is a list of the most common types of products that can be used.

Scratch."was created by a group called Lifelong Kindergarten at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab in the United States,Easy programming software for elementary school studentsIt is.

Still, "I'm anxious because I'm programming for the first time."We hope that those who are interested in this program will also be able to participate,They will start by learning simple Scratch programming code and language, and then gradually become familiar with it through activities using programming.

The main thing about this third day,Using scratch programming, have your group create a "sustainable city" using clean energy.

It may sound difficult, but don't worry. Our instructors will carefully support your child's ideas as they take shape.

It is these activities, "thinking and creating as a team," that trigger the creation of further ideas, understanding of knowledge, and the desire to learn more! I want to learn more! It also leads to an inquisitive mind that wants to understand and learn more. What's important.Let's do it!"This is how I feel.

DAY 4: Summary study and presentation

The fourth and final day will be a summary study to consolidate what has been learned so far.

We will review the SDGs and once again do an activity to create clean energy.

And, "Have students summarize "what they have learned" and "what they have experienced" using PowerPoint and posters and present them in English.Group Presentations."The following is a list of the most common types of products that can be used.

In your own words, in English."Through this kind of output,Not only was it fun, but we will turn it into knowledge and skills that will be firmly embedded in your child's life.

This time, it was also a long activity,Summer school will be held while taking precautions against infection. (*Programs are subject to change depending on weather and corona infection situation.)

We invite you to deepen your understanding of the SDGs, STEAM, and programming through a variety of activities to bring a global perspective.

This summer experience should expand your child's potential.
