DAY 4

The moment when we transcend the individual and become one.

In taiko, it is more important that everyone's breathing and heart be in sync than that one person be good at it.
By matching sounds, layering rhythms, and expressing in unison with their peers, participants experience a sense of "harmony" and "community" in Japan. The experience of thinking of a message as a team and delivering it in sound creates a deep connection that transcends language.

Activities

Japanese drum

In taiko drumming, students experience creating sound in unison with their peers by matching their breathing and rhythm.

In a culture where everyone completes the work, rather than individuals, the students will experience "harmony" and the "sense of being one" with their bodies.
