DAY 4

A moment of transcending the individual and becoming one

In taiko drumming, what matters most is not individual skill, but the alignment of everyone’s breath and heart.

By syncing sounds and layering rhythms, participants experience Japan’s sense of harmony and community through becoming one with their teammates. Creating a message as a team and expressing it through sound fosters a deep connection that goes beyond words.

Activities

Japanese drum

In taiko drumming, students experience creating sound in unison with their peers by matching their breathing and rhythm.

In a culture where everyone completes the work, rather than individuals, the students will experience "harmony" and the "sense of being one" with their bodies.
