Event Report] Field Trip To Ueno

Hello!

This is Aya from GLI Online.

On Sunday, April 23, the online school will hold its first in-person event in many years, "Field Trip to UenoThe "Mere Old Man" will conduct the "Mere Old Man,

Many people participated not only online, but also from the Hiroo, Harumi, and Musashi-Kosugi school buildings.

(14 total ✨)

The theme of the field trip is ・・・・

Discover the joy of communicating in English.

Learn about diversity through communication with foreign tourists

Stimulate inquisitiveness and curiosity through exposure to different cultures

So I went to Ueno Park, which is visited by many foreign visitors.

prior learning

Before going to Ueno Park, we gathered at Hiroo School for a preliminary study.

As soon as they entered the classroom, everyone was in a very good mood ✨: they actively spoke in English to Hannah, a Brit who was helping out with the event, and immediately struck up a conversation with their teammates whom they had just met for the first time.

In the pre-study, we were divided into groups, decided on team names, and thought about what we would like to ask.

What do you like about Japan?

Who is the most famous Japanese person in your country?
What are the differences between Japan and your country?

What are you most excited to do here?

Do you often eat chocolate in your country?

Each group came up with ideas of things they would like to ask foreigners, such as

We also discussed not only the content of the interview in English, but also how to talk to them and how to behave while they were talking.

Speak in a loud voice, look the other person in the eye, and respond to the other person's words.etc.

Many very important things came from the children themselves✨.

Departure to Ueno!

After eating lunch together in the classroom, we finally depart for Ueno!

When walking to the station and boarding the train, older brothers and sisters in each group naturally took the hands of the younger children.

He was a great help, keeping an eye out for any delays ✨.

Start of interview!

After arriving at Ueno Station, we were divided into groups and the interviews finally began!

Looking around, I see many foreign tourists.

Who do you talk to?

That man seems kind!

If I talk to someone who is taking a break, will I disturb them?

Who will call on you first?

Everyone was nervous but very excited.

Some teams took a little longer to get to the first "Excuse me".

After the first interview, "That was so sweet!" Let's hurry up and talk to the next person!" and

The car started running so briskly that it was hard to keep up💦.

The teamwork was perfect, led by the leader's brother!

Our first interview was with Luca, an Italian! Everyone was fascinated by the kind and fun Luca!

Anna is a German. I learn that there are many foreigners working in Tokyo, not just traveling.

Matthew and his family on a family trip from Australia, telling us what they liked about Australia.

Two people from France are a former teacher and student! Student Catherine has wanted to go to Japan since she was a high school student!
He told the teacher.

Everyone took turns talking about the questions they thought up, nodding and reacting to the other's answers, and sometimes expressing their own opinions and feelings,Knowing what you don't know, communicating feelings beyond language barriers. The fun of the ✨ was a delight to behold.

Although it was a short 50-minute interview, I was able to meet my goal of "interviewing three people without fail! I was able to achieve my goal of interviewing three people.

All teams were able to talk to more people than they had targeted.

The largest team talked to a whopping eight pairs of people.

Report Writing & Presentation

I still want to interview again! There were many people who said that they would like to do another interview in Ueno Park, which lasted about an hour.

After the activity, we went back to the classroom.

The field trip is a process of summarizing the activities as a group and presenting what you felt.

Each group listens to the recording and reflects on the interview on a report sheet.

We will summarize.

Here, too, the leader's brother or sister would translate everyone's opinions into writing or typing.

They were central to the creation of the sheet.

Presentation time created by everyone.

It was only an hour or so back in the classroom, but each team was able to compile their ideas, complete their slides, and present them in front of everyone ✨👏.

Parents' comments

We have received feedback about the event from the parents of those who attended.

We are pleased to introduce you 😊.

◉He says he had a lot of fun and wants to speak more English.

They are motivated by the frustration of not being able to speak as well as they would like.

◉As soon as I got home, I said to myself, "How many people did you interview! I was from France, Italy, or some other strong soccer country!" or "I knew about Nagatomo! I was very happy to hear that they had enjoyed the activities so much!
I also served as a leader, and I think it gave me confidence for the future. I hope to continue to be interested in foreign countries and study abroad.

The interview was very enjoyable, and he was very excited to be interviewed face to face, not through a screen.

He wants to participate again next time. I am glad it was a good experience.

GLI Online will not only be online this year, but also in the field trips like this one.

Many hands-on events will also be held!
