Winter Camp 2025] Event Report! Special Information also!

January 11-13, 2025, for the third time.GLI Ski Camps" were held. The first time the company was founded, it was in the process of being reorganized into a new company.

Together with a total of 10 students, some of whom had participated in the previous and previous events without fail, and others who were new to sleepover-type events, we went to "Iwahara Ski Resort" in Yuzawa, Minamiuonuma-gun, Niigata Prefecture!

Arriving at Echigo Yuzawa Station on the Shinkansen, you will find a silver world ⛄️

The driver who picked us up.The day before, we had a good amount of snow, so the conditions were perfect for skiing! The words "I'm very excited about this," raise expectations.

Carry your luggage through the snow from your car to your lodgings.
Weather at the site is clear. ☀️

DAY 1: Ski lesson!

As soon as we dropped our bags off at our lodgings and finished lunch, we were ready to go.Ski lessons begin!

You will learn the basics from local ski instructors, Nick and Ed.

Some of them were experienced skiers, but they carefully repeated basic exercises to get used to the conditions of this ski resort.

Instructors Ed (left) and Nick (right)

The more experienced children seemed to be thinking, "I can't wait to ski freely on the slopes spread out in front of me! The experienced children seemed to want to "ski freely on the slopes spread out in front of me as soon as possible," but there were also scenes of everyone repeating the same lesson, supporting and advising the children who were unfamiliar with the snow.

Even members who had never met each other before gradually bonded in this way.It seems to be.

After patiently repeating the basic exercises, it was time to take the lift to the top!

Thanks to the support of the instructors, everyone had a great time skiing down the slopes.

Once you learn the joy of skiing, there is no stopping! We skied the course many times until dinner.

DAY 2: Skiing! Skiing!

On the second day, skiing started in the morning!

The weather continued to be clear and sunny as yesterday. More than sparkling and dazzling slopes,The children's smiles shone brightly!

Today, with two instructors, Mr. Nick and Mr. Ed, the children never got tired of skiing. By the time the morning skiing was over, they were all sweating, and some said, "I'm so tired! I want to relax and play in the snow! I want to take a nap in the afternoon!

Enjoy skiing as much as you want!

After skiing so much and being satisfied, I wondered if many children would choose to play in the snow in the afternoon. I thought so, but after lunch, everyone's power was restored, and most of the children, including those who were at the beginner level, chose to ski again in the afternoon and boarded the lifts.

Of course, some children chose to play in the snow, but they too were not "leisurely" but very powerful! They dug holes with shovels borrowed from the hotel to make tunnels and built walls with snow blocks. They were also excited to see "Icicles," a unique feature of snow country!

In fact, "playing in the snow" was not only during the daytime. This ski tour includedThe theme of "Artand in the evening English lessons there areWe learned vocabulary about "art" and "color."

And on the second day, the last night, "art" x "snow" activities were held!

Using water balloons filled with "colored water" (made of naturally harmless food coloring) that Brandon had prepared in the snow the day before, and colored water sprays, the children painted on the snow, made a kamakura, and colored it colorfully....

It must have been the first time for all of them to play in such an artistic snow play!

DAY 3: Leave the ski resort for a local experience!

On the third and final day, we left the ski resort and looked forward toThe Local Experience."To!

Before that,Three days and two nights "communal living" at the dormitoryI would also like to mention

Participating in a tour away from your parents means that you are expected to take good care of yourself and behave in public.

Whether everyone was able to do it from the beginning was not the case in many areas.

For example,On the first day from one of the roomsSensei! I can't lay out the futon!"The appeal is that....

It was supposed to be a large room, more than 10 tatami mats, but why? When I went to the room, I found that each of them had left their suitcases open, and their undressed clothes were scattered around them. They struggled to put down the futon in any direction in the open space,We can't lay out a futon, so we have to sleep in a closet."He looked serious.

Then, the morning of the last day.

Every time I went for an inspection, "Tidy up!" and it was worth it when I opened the door,All the bedding in the room is neatly folded and tucked away in a corner, and the children have neatly packed their own luggage before the meeting time. The children wait quietly!

He cried that he couldn't lay out the futon.Impressed by the gap from the first dayI did.

The participants tried their hand at making Niigata's specialty, sasa-dango (bamboo grass dumplings)!

Skiing was the main activity this time.Making Sasa-dango (bamboo grass dumplings)Many children were looking forward to the

According to the owner of Daigenta, who instructed us in making sasa-dango, all the ingredients used here are natural and locally sourced.

The delicious aroma of freshly harvested mugwort and bamboo grass, the feel of the Igusa (rush grass) used to wrap and bind the bamboo dumplings...we enjoyed sensations that can only be experienced in the field.

After making sasa-dango (bamboo grass dumplings), we had a long-awaited lunch. Here is alsoNiigata's specialty "Hegisoba" (buckwheat noodles)It is.

Great Communicator." Such as,

Dr. Brandon announced the perfect prize for each participant.

The nervous faces of first-time skiers, the excited faces of children playing in the snow....The children, though, showed us a variety of expressions over the three days,I will never forget the expressions on their faces at this final "awards ceremony".

Brandon called out each student's name, and while they listened intently to his or her comments, some were a little embarrassed, while others looked really happy when everyone around them said, "That's perfect! They were also smiling happily when they were told by everyone around them that they were perfect for each other.

It was a very nice award ceremony where everyone recognized and praised each other's growth and everyone was proud of each other.

The weather on the return trip was snowy.

We were blessed with good weather during skiing, but on the way back we headed to the station, savoring the snowy weather.

At the Gala-Yuzawa station before boarding the Shinkansen, I was supposed to heal my tired body at the spa...but...,Children are still full of energy. They had a great time in the pool.

After that, I bought some souvenirs and took the bullet train back to Tokyo where my family was waiting for me after a successful 3-day/2-night ski camp.

Participant's Voice

Finally, after the event, we received from the parentsSurvey."The following is a partial list of

I felt my child's growth, and most of all, he seemed to have enjoyed himself, so I would like him to participate again next time.

I was reassured by the reports on the process as appropriate. He enjoyed it. I was able to spend time in an English-speaking environment at a meeting where I felt at home and could learn.

It was a great experience to do something new together with children of different ages and backgrounds in an unusual environment.

I had a great time for multiple days afterwards! Wow! and was super hyped.

He enjoyed not only the skiing, but also the time he spent with the children and their teachers, and all the events.

I was able to check on my child's progress from start to finish, and I was able to let her participate with peace of mind.

We were able to have a large number of ski teachers available, we had a lot of communication with the teachers, they paid close attention to us, and we received real-time reports and photos in a busy schedule, so we felt at ease. The most important thing is that the teachers are always very attentive to our children, so we can leave everything to them with peace of mind.

● After participating in the camp, there was an exchange program with overseas students at the school, and he was able to play with his buddy's child in a friendly manner. Perhaps they were a little more accustomed to English.

I was worried at first that I would not fit in well because I have a shy streak, but everyone was very kind to me and helped me out, and I was able to have a very good relationship with them.

This spring, "Hakone" is the stage!
